Review of the Toshiba Protégé Z835

Toshiba has emerged as a leader in the manufacture of ultra light portable laptops. In the last two years, Toshiba has unveiled various types of laptops. One of the laptops which have received a lot of reviews is the Protégé Z835. Protégé Z835 comes with various features among them Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI and USB 2.0 and 3.0 among others. It is worth noting that Protégé Z835 is an upgrade of the Protégé R500 which measures 0.77 inches thick and weighs 2.4 pounds. The Protégé Z835 weighs 3.1 pounds. In addition to that, this device has a battery life of eight hours which is much more than that of its predecessor. As seen above, this device has various features which have attracted a lot of positive reviews.

Track pad and keyboard
Protégé Z835 has a touch pad which measures 1.75 by 3.3 inches. This touch pad has a low friction smooth surface which enables the user to easily drug the cursor across the screen. Secondly, the touch pad has been adapted to pull off zoom to pinch easily efficiently. Thirdly, the buttons of the touch pad are reliable, fairly quiet and easy to use. This keypad offers little space between keys. It so follow that the user can easily use major keys e.g. Caps lock, Enter, Shift and Left or Right among others. Secondly, one is quickly accustomed to using this key board quickly. It is worth noting that various keys e.g. Ctlr and Fn buttons are not easily distinguishable from lettered keys. These keys offer the user a low pitched sound. In addition to that, these keys are spill resistant. Another advantage of this keyboard is that keys are not too bright. These keys offer a glow hence one can easily type in darkness.

Design
The Protégé Z835 has an attractive design. This laptop is made of magnesium allow. In addition to that, the laptop has honey comb caging. To this end, it feels fragile to touch. It is important to note that this device is fingerprint resistance consequently; one does not have to use kid’s gloves to handle it.

Performance
Many individual seeking to buy laptops consider performance. The device has 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD and a 1.4 GHz core i3-2367M processor. This enables the Toshiba Z835 to cut down boot time by more than half. Toshiba’s Z835 solid state drive delivers fast write performance of up to 50 MB/s. This drive can top speeds of between 200 and 250 MB/s writes.

Sound and display
The laptop’s volume control is situated on the “3” and “4” keys thus bringing about good sound quality. It is however worth noting that the laptop does not have an onscreen volume indicator. Secondly, Toshiba Z835 has a 1366 by 768 pixel display. Although this resolution is much lower than the standard UX31 1600 by 900, it offers comfortable viewing for web pages and mails. Software
This laptop runs on Bloatware. However, it is worth noting that Toshiba wrote most of the software entailed in the laptop. Various programs found in the Toshiba Z835 include Face recognition, Media Controller, HDD protection, Toshiba Assist, Service Station, Security Assist, HDD/SDD alert and HW Setup Utility among others.

Battery life
Toshiba Z835 has an eight hour battery life. In addition to that, the device has a battery saving system which turns off the backlight, screen, and hard drive and dims the display thus saving power.
